Danilo Fischetti - Rugby Player
Danilo Fischetti began his rugby journey at Aprilia Rugby (formerly Garibaldina Rugby Aprilia) in Aprilia, in the province of Latina. From there, he continued his athletic development by transferring to Rugby Lanuvio in Lanuvio, a municipality in the province of Rome. Already at 16, his talent landed him in the youth ranks of the renowned Capitolina Rugby, preparing him for even more ambitious challenges.
The Rise with the FIR Academy and the Under-20 National Team
In 2016, Danilo was selected for the FIR Ivan Francescato Academy, where he demonstrated his potential in the Under-20 Six Nations. His determination and skill made him a key player for the Italian Under-20 national team, preparing him for the next step up to professional rugby.
Success in Calvisano and Entry into the Zebre
In 2017, Danilo signed with Calvisano, where he quickly made his mark on Italian rugby. In 2019, he celebrated the Italian championship title with Calvisano, also earning individual recognition as the league’s best player. During his time there, he was a permit player for Zebre, the Parma-based federal club, before being acquired full-time in May 2019.
The Call to the 2019 World Cup
Danilo was an emergency call-up by coach Conor O’Shea during the summer preparations for the 2019 World Cup. Although he wasn’t initially included in the final squad, he was called up during the competition to replace injured players. Although he didn’t make his debut due to a World Rugby decision, his international breakthrough was now a certainty.
Franco Smith’s success with Italy and his call-ups
Franco Smith recognized Danilo’s value, confirming him in the Italy roster for the 2020 Six Nations, where he made his international debut against Wales at the Millennium Stadium. His consistent presence on the pitch throughout the tournament demonstrated his importance to the national team. His international adventure continued with the Autumn Nations Cup, confirming his crucial role in the future of Italian rugby.
